A singular acoident occured in Adrián a few days ago. A young man naraed Tan Sickle was going out hunting and aid his loaded shot gun down upon the able and was putting on his rubbers, when his dog leaped upon the table mlled the guu off and it feil upon the loor striking on the hammer and was discharged, the whole load of shot strikng the sole of Van Sickle's boot near he toe, and though none of the shot entered the boot, his big toe was driven upward and back out of joint. Tho wholesale paper warehouse of Barnes Brothers,' 141 Jefferson avenue, Detroit, was burned on Sunday evening ast with its entire contents. Loss on stock, f50,000 with an insurance of f4G,000. The building was owned by Dliver Chaffee, and the loss waS fully nsured. The adjoining building occuiied by Hazard and Brewster was badly damaged. This week Farmers' Instituto, under auspices of the State Board of AgriculDure, have beon held at Marshall and Paw Paw. Other Institutos will be beid as follows : at Tecumseh, January 21, 22 ; at St. Johns, January 24, 25 ; at Saginaw City, January, 2S, 29 ; and at Climax, Kalamazoo County, Jauuary 31 and February 1. Diphtheria is raging to a considerable exteut in various portions of Genesee County, niany oases resulting fatally. A few days since Nathan Crossman, a resident of Kiehfield Township, lost two children, there being only ouo day's difference between their decease. The disease has about subsidod in Flint. There were 672 male and 140 female prisoners in the Detroit House of Correction Dec. 31. Of the 812 prisoners now there are 390 vagrants. Mrs. Maria Hagar, aged C4 years, was found drowned in a creek in Sherman, fit. Joseph County, on January 11. George Medler, tho notorious burglar who broke jail at Mason last sumuier but was recontly captured in Chicago and brought back, was sentenced on the 12th inst. to four years imprisonment at Jackson. The will of the late Frank Nevin, of Detroit, of the firui of Nevin fc Mills, disposed of $106,500 in cash, besides valuable real estáte iu Detroit and in Kentucky. The salaries of the Jackson County sfficors have boen fixed as follows : Judgaof Probate, $1,100 ; Clerk, $1,000; Treasurer, $1,200; Prosucuting Attorney, .■f1,200; Probate Register, $300; Superintendents of Poor, $400 each. The Jackson County Board of Supervisors has voted to pay off the indebtedness of the Agricultural Socioty of the County and take the title of the grounds in trust for flfteen years. Under what law ? The Alpena Argus says that in Alpena County the business of getting out pail bolts isbecoming an important industry. The Bay City News says a lady of that city has been voted out of oue of the churches for stealing provisions at a church social. The Greenville Independent says that fivo men with clubs and axes a few days ago killed a two-year old bonr al Langston. In behalf of Detroit business men Philo Parsons has inaugurated a movement to secure the holding tho next State Fair in that city. The good man who owns and edits the St. Louis Olohe-Democrat can nevèr sufiiciently show his gratitude to Grant who pardoned hitn out of jail a year ago. The good man now nominates Grant for the Presidency and Koscoe Conkling for the Vice-Presidency, anc has no doubt sent marked copies of his paper to each of these illustiïous men It is easy to imaginti that Mr. Conkling will not bo entirely suited with this ticket, he wants to come first, and as Grant does not want to come second why not put on Blaine, or mako il Blaine and Conkling, or Conkling and Blaine - they're all on the same platform now - or Blaine and Kellogg 'i There are ñames enough to form a powerfuj combination with. - l'hiladelphia Time.
