A Cat Story From Maine

The editor of the Brunswick (Me.) Telecraph is fond of telling stories about intelligent animáis, and fonder of the animáis themselves. His latest contribution is fouud in the issue of bis paper for the 28tli uit., and reads thus: " Not long sinee, Dr. E. W. Johnson, druggist, while sitting quietly in his store, heard a seratch at his door, whioh he took to be tliat of the dog of a friend who often visits hint. He did not rise for the moment, ond heard tlie seiMteh repeated. He opened the door and iu walked a strange cat. which looked up iu a friendly wny in his face. Tho cat roamed about the store, going. as cata do, into uil the üild nooks and corners. Finally she camo behind the counter, vhere the doctor was waiting upon a custoiner. Turning round lie fouud the cat at a drawer, endeavoring to get the knob in her inonth and wit'i both paws nround it, entleavoriofr, apparently, to pull out the drawer. He drove the cat away, uot. thiaking for the moment what she was after. In a few seconds pussy was ftgain at work, and this time the doctor bethought him that she was at the catnip drawer. He opened it, tbrew down a handl'ul of the herb, in the eating of which and iu rolling in which the cat seemed to be in eestacies. He gave ]iiss ü second doss, and puss had her lili, very soon nfter leaving the store. The doctor had never seen her bei'ore, and has not secn her since. A sick cat ? In purfcuit of medicine?
