The above out representa the new office ot the Detroit Evening News, into wlñch it removed with the opening of the present year, and which is without doubt the most commodious and complete newspaper office in the west. The News had up to the date of it.-. removal, printed nearly eighteeu million slu't'U, consuming not lrss than 486 ton of white paper, or apile a inile high-each a heet being sprsad out its fnll size. The amount of reading matter published in its columns each year is estimated to be equal to thirty octavo volumes of ö(K) pages each. Aoout $13,000 was paid out last year for editorial work, aod $10,000 more for type setting. The gross business of the concern for 1877 exceeded SS5,000, thus evincing the popularity of the paper as welt with advertisere as the reading public. Besides an office staff of 49 editors, printers and clerkst it affords direct employment to aearly 500 carriers and newsboys, besldes a large starTof cor respon d en ts, the entire number of persons deriviug regular íncome directly from its publication reaching as high as 640. These fact3 ïllustrate the magnitude of the business which has been built up ín a little over four years. With unsurpassed facilities, the publishers now Ëropose to redouble their exertions to niake The vkxing Nkw the model paper of the northwest. A new outfit of type will soon improve the mechanical appearance, and a new and much faster press is also in the ncar future, notwithstanding that the present machine has a capacity for upwards of 10,000 sheets per hour. No Detroit paper has a largor staffof editors and reporters, or one composed oí men better trained to their profession, and all are now, as one man, bending every energT to distinguisb thcmselves and the journal with which they are connected. A most intresting and readable sheet can therefore be promiaed for the ensuintr year. All we ask of the public is simply to try the paperor a week, a month or a quarter. In every considerable village in the State Thk ëveniko News is obtainable hy carrier at 10 cents per weck. Where it cannot be so secured it will be sent by mail, postage prepaid, at the following ratos: per year, $5.00 j per quarter, 51.25; per month, 4ö cents.
