The several magazines which come to our tabie for March, claiming notice, are : The Catholic World has: Ireland in 1S78, I; Araong the Translators, III ; The HomeEule Candidato, a story of New Ireland, chap. II ; French Home Life ; Dr. Draper and Evolution, a caustic criticiam of a paper read by Dr. J. W. Draper at a meeting of Unitarian ministers held last üctober at Spriugfleld, Mass.; Michael the Sombre, an episode in the Polish insurrection of 1863-4, concluded ; The late Dr. T. VV. Marshall ; Papal Election8, II ; The Holy Gave of Manresa ; The Miracle of September 1G, 1877; Pius the Ninth,- biographical and critical ; several poema, and reviews of half a dozen new publications. The number completes the twenty-sixth volume of this scholarly and coutroversial pubhcation. Catholic Publication Society, New York. The Atlantic Monthly has a vigorous article by the late Hou. Gideon Welles, The üpposition to Liucoln in 1864,- a severo criticism of Grant as a military leader; The Staff of the United States Army, by Col. R. Williams. U. S. A.; Victor Emmanuel's Political Work, by Wm. Chauncy Langdon ; The Story of a Swiss King-Politiciau (James Fazy), by Arthur Verner; aud Crude and Curious Inveutions at the Centennial Exhibition (driuking veseels, pots, and pans of uncivilizod nutions), by Edward H. Kuiht. In flction there are : Detmold, a Romance, part IV, by W. H. Bishop. A Lost Lover, by Sarah ü. Jewett ; and The Loves of Alonzo Fitz Clarence and Rosannah Etlielton (telephonic), by Mark Twain. Chas. Dudley Warner tells of his "Fight with a Trout" in the Adirondacks (liahy); J. ƒ. Piatt disuusses Mr. Stedman's Poetry ; W. D. Howells writes of Jean Francois Marmontel, a French Poet of the üld Regime ; and Raymond Westbrook bas another Open Letter irom New York, in which he treats of the metropolitan theaters and the romantic drama. There are poetns by Longfellow, "Another Rosary of Sonnets " aud " The White Czar ; " by George Parsons Lathrop, Good Times; by Whittier, William Francia Bartlett ; and by C. L. Cleavland, Winter.
