Ex-üov. J. M. Ashley oí Toledo visitad this city on Thursday last, and held au interview with a large delegation of business ineu of this city. The prospecta oí' an extensión of the Toledo & Aun Arbor road (which will be conpleted in May) to this city wcre íreely discussed and statistics examiued for the puipose of ascertaiuing the capabilities of the surrounding country and the railroad connections. Mr. Ashley uxpressod his pleasuro at the fair showing. A meeting was then organized, with J. I. Mead as ehairraan aud N. B. Jones secretary. A committee consisting of S. 13. Bingham, Whituey Jones, and 8. L. Kilbourne was appointed to drait resolutions expressing the sense of the meeting. The committee reported the following, which were unanimously adopted : Whereas, the building of the Toledo & Aun Arbor railroad, to be completed the coming spring, opens up a prospectiva direct connection betvvcen Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Toledo, therefore Resolved, that the citizens of Lansing will in good faith joiu the citizens of Aun Arbor, and undertake to raiso at each point along the liue sufticient means to grade the road, build the bridges, and f urnish ties, ready for the iron for a railroad irom Lansing to Ann Arbor, by such direct and ieasible line as will furnish the subseriptions, and will be ready to give a posi tive answer as to its being done by the flrst day of June, 1878; provided they shall have good and satisfactory assurauce that such road shall be ironed and equipped. Kesolved, that to accomplish the object named it will be necessary for us to have such guarantee by tho 20th of March noxt. A committee on correspondence was appointed, consisting of Messrs. S. L. Kilbourue, N". B. Jones, and J. I. Mead, and the meeting acijourned subject to the cali of the chairman of this committee. Gov. Ashley will at once lay this proposition before his company foï deflnite action, and appears to be favorably impressed with it. The distance by air line is about ÜO miles, the country is level, and there are no great obstacles in the way of a cheap road-bed, with no extensivo bridging.
