I It singa to me in sunnnine, It whiBpers all nignt long ; My heartache like an echo Repeats the wfetful song ; Only a quaint oíd love-lilt, WhereiTi my life lies Jiid : " My body is íii Segovia, But iny soul ie in Madrid." I dream and wake and wonder, For dream and day are ono, Aliglit with vanished faces, And daye forever done. They smile and shine around me, As long ago they did, For my body is in Segovia, But mysoul is in Madrid. Through inland hills and foresta I hear the ocean breeze, The creak of p training cordage, The rush of mighty seae, The Jif t of angry billows Through which a ewif t keel slid, For my body is in Segovia, But my soul in in Madrid. Oh, fair-haired littlo darlings, Who bore my heart away, A wide and woful ocean Between us roare to-day ; Yet I am cloee beside you, Thougn time and Bpace forbid ; My body is in Segovia, But my bouI ie in Madrid. If I were once in heaven, There would be no more sea ; My heart would ceaee to wander, My sorrows ceaso to be ; My sad oyes sleep forever, In duBt and daisies kid, And my body leave Segovia- Would my soul foreet Madrid ?
