Three littlo girls from G to 8 years of age, at Manville, Wis., on the Wisconsin Central railroad, wandered into the woods and got lost. Night carne on, and the litt-le ones finally at about midnight ran upon a liay-stack in a clearing. They pulled out somo of the hay and made a hole big enough to crawl into, when to their horror several large wolves came bowling about them and snapping their Imngry jaws in anticipation of the humnn feast before them. The childron cried and screamed in their terror, as the wolves came noarer and nearer. Finally tho oldest of the children, while on lier knees praying for herself and littlo sisters, happened to remember reading that fire woiüd frighton away wild animáis, and remembered also that she had a few matches íd her pocket. In a moment she pushed the children out from the stack and struck a match and sefrBre to tho dry hay. The I effect was magioal. In nu iustant the fiamos shot upward, and the wolves rin ofT in a rage of disappointment, and, soon after, as the littlo ones were warming their chilled blood in their little veins, their parents and friends camo up to their reseñe, attracted thither by the light from the buruing Jbay-stack.
