Erzeroum, in tbc recent ■war, seems to havo been a vast charnel honse. During the past three months 9,500 Tnrkieh soldiers have diod ia the varioiw hospitnls there, and probably as rnaay civilians, niaWnor a total mortality of nearly 20,000 in Erzeroum alone in about twelve weeks. In January, the weathcr being then vcry severe, a detachment of 800 troops was sent over the mount.iins to jErzingham. Ouly 300 reacüed their destinatiou. Thcy were oveitaktn by a fcarfnl snow-storm. ïl-,o Cjlouel had his wife and three. children with liim in a covered araba; he and thoy all perished. The hospitals at Erzoroum are full of cases of frost-bite, some of them as severe as any casas on record.
