The Presbyterian Assembly (Northern), tvliioh met in Pittsburgh tlio other day, representa a very important constituency. Tn May, 1877, tlie total number of synods was 37 ; of presbyteries, 175 ; of ministers, 4,801 ; of churehes, 5,153, and of communicants, 557,074. Sinoe 1872 the increase in the number of communicants has been 89,570. The total of contributions for all purposes in 1877 was $8,295,361. The business of the chitrch is mtrusted to the care of geven boards, which are subject to the General Assembly : Home Mission, Foreign Míssíod, Edncation, Publication, Presbyterian House, Church Ereotion, Relief'.
