The Burglars At Work Again
Heiiry Laubengayer, grocer, living on Second street, woke up on Monday morning to find that his pocket book had been abstracted trom lus pant9 which he had, on going to bed, hung upon a chair near the open door of his bed room. The pocket book was afterward ound ou his front door steps $116 in money had been abstracted, but $126 in notes and orders had been rejected as not current "coin' of the realm. Entrance was effected by prying out the mosquito netting frame from a front window.and exit through the front door. Two watches in a chair near his bed were not touched. Ac an early hour on Sunday morning, Mrs_ Patrick ΓΌ'Brien, living on Liberty street, was wakeued by a noise, and saw her husbanil's pauts takiug Ieave by way of the window. The burg] ars had cut the lower slat of the blind- the window beingopen - and fished the pauta out with a pole and hook. She gave the alarm and the burglars fled too soon for pursuit or detectiou. They got but $1 from their venture. Charles ltichards, living at the residence of Dr. Williams (his step-father), on State street _ _ B J f" 1 t 4 1 r _ woke between 2 and 3 o'clook on Sunday morniug, aud saw the curtain to the window in motion. Cxoing to the window he found the upper sash down and one log of a man on the iri9ide of the room and over both sash. Before he could grab his man the leg was withdrawn and a dash lor liberty made. The intruder was masked. The window had been left opeu at the top on going to bed, and the burglar had olimbed upon the window stool, reaohed over the sash, pulled out the fastener, and lowered the saah. During Saturday night last an attempt was made to enter the house of John Collins, on block eaat of the High School grounds. " Prightened away before sucoeeding " ia the report. The prevalling "euld snap" is a reminder to prepare lor rough fall weathcr.
