Tho report of the Buildiug Committee submitted to the Board of Supervisors is too loug for our columns, ïhe following figures, gathered trom it, wil!, liowever, show the preBenl eatimated cost of the ' building wheu completad : that is if all the Cnmmittee's expenditures are approved : Contract price, $56,900 Architect' fees, a-bout 3,000 109,900 Extras to Confiadora : Ou I'urniture, $2,880 beams and oornioo, 2,325 Cistern, 329 DraiDafje, 310 Fourstatues, 7Ü0 6,580 The Committoe Imve inciirred other oxpenditures : Grading of yard, S-IO Filling inside of wallj, 296 (ïas-piping, 400 Furniture contraotfld, 1,750 - ■ ■ 3,285 #09,765 Iii'coivcil fr old Coórt Houre, 325 Í69.440 These iigureit do uot iucludesteam heatiug apparatu, which is oifered to the Committee at $3,269, aud we presume camiot be obtained at a much lowor iigure. Vith the Committee we beheve steam the best method of heatiug the building, aud in fact we doubt whether, in the absence of flues in niany of the room, auy othor niethod 8 practicable. We do not notice that the exuess iu the price of the cloclc (löOO over the donation of Air. James) appears in above ligares, which must be added to tlie total, with the coat of whatever heating apparstus shall ba adopted. - The f2,32") for ion beatos to atrengthen the weak juist, and the coruice made necessary by Iheir use, is either the coat of inconipeteucy iu the architect, oí u ilusign to bring a plan within appropriatious and secure its adoptiou and raake a Ievy íor extras to cure the weaknes, or a blunder iu ligures just as censurable. We don't care which view is taken. Aud while on this weak spot, would n't it be well for the Building Committee or the Supervisors' Committee on Public Buildings to have some expert investígate the timbera and frame work supporting the roof ? We make the suggestion notas "a croaker,"' but in the interest of the county. - We don't kuow but it is wise to pay 1700 for four statues of that Goddess of Justice (as like as four peas), but think one might have answered. Four appropnate but unlike atatue8 would have been an ornament iu good taste, aud perhaps a judicious improvement. - The coutractors have already drawn f-li),K!1O.8ó, and the architect f2,901 88.
