Sunderland, of the Unitaiiau Church, would preach on Robort O. Ingersoll, filled everyseat in the house. Mr. Sunderlaud discussed first the questioo "Is Mr. Iugersoll doing any harm .by his lectures f " and pomted out aereral directions in which he thought that he was: 1. lu going so far in the direetion of atheism ; '2. In deoying ïmmortality ; 3. By treating the bible uufairly and recognmng no good in it; 4. By niaking l)ght of religión ; and 5. By his geueral irrevereuce ond his treatment of what otlien regard sacred. Ou the other side he thought that he was doiug good : By exposing soine ol the unworthy couceptions of God held by Christian people ; b y opening men's eyes, porhaps violently, to the iucousisteucies and absurdities of oíd ideas ; by making people thiuk ; and generally by battering down the walls of orthodoxy, which the speaker evideutly cousidered barriera agaiust progresa. The analysis was a candid and fearless oue, yet we can searcely agre with Mr. öunderland that Mr. lngersull is accomplishing the good he credited him with. Mr. Iugeisull pulls dowu but does not buiid up, and if any good comas out of h:s cnisadu againt öod, the Bible, and .Religión, it will be in spite ot his teaching and not because of them. - Rev. Mr. Sunderland will preach next Sunday morning at the Unitarian Church ou 'Musio." Subject of evening lecture: "The ürigiu and Growth of Our Bibla."
