The Supreme Court of the United States has passed directly upon the constitutionality oL the act of Congress prohibiting polygamy in the Territories. The decisicn was rendered in the cape of Reynolds, a Mormon, upon appeal from 'the Territorial court, in -which he was convicted of bigamy in entering into a plural marriage according to the Mormon rite. The court in this decisiĆ³n sustnined the judgment of the Territorial court, afflrming without quaHneation the right of Congress to pass laws prohibiting polygamy in the Territories, and the constitutionality of the present iet of Congress upon that subject. This decisiĆ³n, from vhich there is no appeal, may be accepted as finally settling the nuestion. Under it, by section 5,352 of the Uevised Statutes of the United States, every man and every womanwho lias entered into a plural marriage in the Territory is liable to a fine not oxseeding $500 and imprisonment for not tnore than fiye years.
