A. social at the Presbyteriiin church last Saturday evening was a delightful success. - JudgeDoolittle of Chicago has made he Law department a proposition to speak for them Febrnary 22. - The University calendar for the current year will probably make its ap)earance about February 1, but may be delayed until the lOth. - The University Boat Club has iroke up again and will probably make some arrangements with Mr. Hangsterfer for ,he club to take his boats. - Miss Eva Chandler, a gradúate of ;he Literary department, class of '78, las been added to the faculty of Wellesey college, near Boston, Mass. - Prof. J. C. Potter of Niles. - At a called meeting of the Webster Society the following gentlemen were appointed to represent the sooiety a' ae meeting with the Jeft'ersonian Soiety in about tbree weeks : F. FWeeks, Orator; Mr. Mihills and Mr' lichards, Debaters; Mr. Booth, Readng- - President Payne's lecture on Sunay evening under the auspices of the U. M. T. A. on the subject "The Foe and the Fight " was woll attended and well received. The secretary of the association reported six hundred signatures to the pledge, among the students and professors. - A. H. Pattengill, assistant professor of Greek, has been tendered the chair in Greek at AVisconsin University and will accept. His departure will be a great loss to the University. Calvin Thomas, now instructor in modern languages, and bef ore Prof. Patten gill's return from Europe, assistant professor of Greek, will probably take his place. - Friday evening the Alpha Nu Literary Society elected officers for the ensuing semester as follows : President, K. li. Smoot ; Vice-President, Miss Alice Vlansfield ; Secrotary, B. H. Borick ; Treasurer, Willis Boughton ; Senior Dritic, L. L. Vanslyke ; Junior Critio U iss Jane Eyre ; Librarían, H. M. Pellam ; Assistant Librarían, H. A. Spaulding. - At a called meeting of the Jeffergonian Literary society Monday evening the following gentlemen were appoiuted to represent the society at the joint meeting of the Webster and Jeffersonian societies to bo held on or about the 28th of February in the Law lecture room : Mr: Fields, Orator. Mr. Mllner, Debate. Mr. W. D. Kerr, Debate. Mr. Finch, Beading. Momvm (N. Y.) Register. We are in receipt of a oopy of the Ann Arbor (Mich.) ARQUS, of which J. N. Bailey, late of the Cayuga County Independent, is editor and publisher. It is Democratie in politics and is, we believe, the recognized organ of the party in Washtenaw county. We regard Mr. Bailey as a journalist of no ordinary ability, and as capable of sustaining for the Arous its long established and high reputation.
