There is a good deal of romance to th acre in the farming lands near Wilkes barre. A middle aged ruatic, who hac been stuitten with the oharmsof a saleo keeper's wife, recuntly bought out th husband's rights tor $75 in hand paic receiving a bilĂ­ of sale and a quit-claitn deed. Hot drinks were ordered all a round, dinner was served, and tho far mer drove the whole party home. No long afterward the woman wbo had been sold went riding three tinifis with physician, and the farmer demandec back his money. She had no money in her house.but there was a two-year old colt in the barn, and so sho told the farmer to take the colt and "cali it square." Tho farmer tied the colt to his sleigh and drove briskly to his lonesouie heartli. Meanwhile, the husband who had sold his wife had made lovo to a neighbor's .daughter and ran away with her to New York. The doctor now goes out riding with the foriner owner of the colt ; the farmer wears his old clothos and nevershaves; and the saloon-keeper and his fugitivo bride have vanished from the sighi of all gossips.
