The University calendar i'or tho year 1878-9 is nearly ready tor publication, and its appearance is expected in a few days. It contains, of oourse, a full descnption of the innovations and ohanges in college work which were introduced with the present college year. The arrangement of the calendar has been nmterially improved. The announcement is made that on and after 1880 applicants for admission to the School of Phannacy, wbu are not graduates of high schools, or of academies of equal grade, will be asked to sustain an exaininatiou in English, in arithmetic, in Algebra through jrimple ojuons. and in a yeai s stujy oiïnnn or of Germán. On and after 1879 a longer terra of residence and study than the present will be required of candidates for graduation in the Dental College. During the past year there have been few important changes in the faculty. Prof. E. C. Franklin has beeonie Dean of the Homeopathie Department; Calvin Thomas Instructor iu Modern Linguages. The greatly increased uumber of students this year is due in soiue measure, perhaps, to the changes in the Literary Department. But tbe increase in the professional schools and in the Uuiversity generally must be attributed to the reputation of the University as an educational institution second to none in the country. The nuuiber of students in attendance is now larger than that of auy other university or college in this country, and it cannot be too deeuly regretted that auything should have occurred which should teud to retard, at this time, its iminediate growth. The following tables give the suunnary of students in all the departments as couipared with a summary last yeur, and also a summary by States and counties. The Homeopathie Department alone shows a decrense, and that a suiall one : SUM1IAEY OF STUUENTrf.
