Pursuant to cali delegatei trom towns and cities of thia county convened at Piremun's Hall Wednesday at 11 A. M., to elect four delegates from each representativo district to nttond state convention at Lnnsiug. The meoting called to order by chairman of county convention, Peter Tuite, Esq., of Daxter was briefly addressed by that gentleman who expressed the hopti its deliberatious would be guided by wisdom. He was i ii favor of coalition with elementa opposed to lttipublicanism, and was willing to moot the National half wtiy th;it victory uiight bc secured. Mr. Tuite called Mr. J. D. Cory of Manchester to the chair. l'atrick McKernarl was elected secretary. On motion of Mr. C. S. Gregory of Dexter a committeo on organization and credentials consisting of Messrs. C. S. Gregory of Doxter, J. L. Burlcigh of Ann Arbor ind II. B. Hendurson of Ypsilanti, was named by the chnir. Adjournment ordered to 1:30. Al TElïNOON SÜSSIO.V. Chairnian Heudursou thanked the conveiition and urged it to act for the bost interests of the party. Mr. HcDougall liever witnesaed a more haruiouiouB convention. There was no reason why the opposition could not coalesoe upon an agreeable basis, solid basis whether it be greenbaok or ooin. Ha was satisfled to leave the delegates seleoted to-day to take care of this questiou. There is nonational issue befoio the icoplof this country. He had stood up for forty years battling for the Domocrp.oy, and no one could rightfully acüusn him of disloyalty to thu party. - We want tvvo good men norainated for Regonts -men who will do thejustthing for the Universily. We ought to have one lociitcd in Aun Arbor. We want uien of intellect, character, who will ktt'p aloof from such squabbles as beset our favorite institution. The speaker tnoved each district select its delegates.Mr. Gregory amended in that of each district 8electing delegates and subinitting theni to convention for adoption. - Amendment adopted. Corey, C. S. Gregory, J. M. Kress, Petef Tuite. Each delégate was given power of substitution. Mr. Beakes, btiiug culled upon said it always guve him great pleasure to meet the Democraey af Washtenaw oounty. Not many yers ago the county was in tho hands of oui opponents, but ateadftif-tly wo pulled together uutil we had a majority. I think at this eleotion we J eau unite on ruen on an issue that will oarry the day. The alumni of the ! versity scattered over the state will be with us. We raust have men of the ' highest charaoter selected for regent. There will, I hope be a feeling aroused in behalf of our noble institution. We have 8een a resolution pagsed when a portiou of the Board were absent, intended to refleot upon its most distinguished professors. It is time the people were awakened to the dangers surroundin our groat educatiönal uuiversity. Ooi. Burloigh also oalled upon, said he was an early advocate of coalition. The only issue now was to lick the Eepublicau purty. He wanted to join hand with one and all to beat such men as we have on the Board of Ee gents. Adjourned.
