Howard last Bummer. had raided that country, drove oiï cattle and killed Munday and two others, who pursued, killed Dan Crooks and his comcompanion while sleeping in their camp, and made their escape into the mountains between Payette and South Fork, Saloiüu Itivui. They quietly reconnoitered and made ;he discovery of their camp. Waiting favorïble opportunity, when all were in camp and lot in the least i xpecting the near presence oí ivhite men, they suddenly surprised and at :acked them, and killed 36Jof their number, learly annihilating their whole camp. Only ;wo or three are known to have escaped leath.
