Henceforth Monroe and Washtenaw oountieswill forma new circuit, in place of these counties beretofore, with Ingham added. It has long been held that the duties encumbent upon a judge, oalled to preside over the coarts of three counties were too onerous, espeoially in view of the small salary of $1,500. For thia reason tho circuit has boen lessened ia aren. Who shaU bo selectea o eiuididates by the various parties is a topic of some exoitement ainong members of the bar. A lawyer with a remunorative practice, nnless he has rotirement from the profession in view, can ilhiff ord to accept the position. ïo a young lawyer, ambitious and studious, a place on the bench for a few yoars is often a stnpping tone to higher preferment, or, at least, ftn excellent practice thereafter. We learn the Detnocrats of Monroe will present no candidate unless he be Governeur Morris. In Washtenaw Messrs. D. Cramer of this city and C. K. Whitman of Ypsilauti, present themselves. On the part of the Nationals, Mr. E. E. Frazer is a candidate in anticipation of a coalescing of the two parties. What will be done in this direction remiins to bo soen. Mr. Jchn F. Lawrenee of this city is a candidate for the Iispublican nomination. The dato set down for the asserubling of Domocratic and Greenback delogates will beobsorvedin the calis elsewhore in these columns. Whoever is elected will fill the unexpired term of two years. The re-election of Speaker Bandall is a viotory over subsidies, the soft money element in the party, aod the extremista of tho 6outh who rallied in support of Blackburn. There ia much in the selection to cheer the heart of every Domocrat who looks forward to 1880, as the time when all the departments of the government will be under our control.
