To rid closets of ants use green pepperment frequently. In damp elosets, strong-rooms, safes and other places where mildew is dreaded, a trayful of quicklime placed there will prevent it. Never wash raisins that are to be used in sweet dishes. It will make the pudding heavy. To clean them wipe them in a dry towel. To beat the whites of eggs quickly, put in a pinch of salt. The cooler the eggs the quicker they will froth. Salt eools and also freshens them. After the carpets have been taken up and dusted, ïf the floor is washed (especially around tne edges) with a strong solution of cayenne pepper, it will serve as a preventive against moths. There is a greentiess in onions and potatoes that renders them hard to digest. Forhealth's sake put them in warm water for an hour before cooking. So said Miss Dodge in a lecture on health in Philadelphia the other day. A raw, mellow apple is ordinarily digested in an hour and a half, while a boiled cabbage requires live hours; and again, on authority, "apples, if eaten with breakfast, omitting meats l'or the time, have an admirable effect on the system, rernoving indigestión, correcting the acidities of the stomach and cooling every f ebrile tendency." Abrass kettle may be used with safety if thoroughly well scoured before used. The scouring should be done with fine bath brick and afterward with hot water. Xo acids, such as vinegar, should be used in cooking in a brass kettle. AVhen the kettle is done with for the time, it should be scoured and put away in a dry place, where it will always be ready for use after simple washing.
