While Roaring high abovo the peaks, Wheredwells perpetual snow, An eagle saw a serpent glide Upon a rock below. Joy thrilled his breast and lit his eye; And, swift as bearns of day, He left hie far, othereal home And dartod on his prey. With Iros grasp his talons seized A tempting, eany prize; And gracefully he rose again, Kxulting to tbc akies. A sting has pierced the victor's heart - Low droops his kingly head; With leaden wings he whirls, and rooti Upon the rock falls dcad. That serpent is intcmperaDce, Genius the eagle's name - Ah! many by that viper tung Lose honor, wealth and fame.
