The Secretary of War, Chief Justice Waite, Gen. Sberidan, Gen. Butler, and other distinguished gentlemen passed through Boston Wednesday, fora visit to the Soldiers' Home, at Sogus, Maine. Mantón Marble and Mrs. Williams Lombard were married Wednesday. Ex-Uov. Wm. Allen of Ohio, died at Chillicothe, Eriday morning. His illlnesa waa of brief duration. He wan in Chillicothe on Wednesday apparently in most excellent health and spirits. His first mention of ïllness was on Wednesday morning, but he did not regard his condition of sufticient consequennes to receive attention until afternoon at 4 o'clock. He was up several times during the nlght. About 1:20 Friday morning he arose suddenly, left his bed for a chair, feil into it and died without a word. Dr. Scott had seated himself in an adjoining room and responded hastily to Mrs. Scott's cali, but before he reached the governor's side he was dead. Uüited States Senator Ben Hill of Georgia has consented to deüver the address at the lonia county fair next f all if he can potwibly get away from his official duties. Dr. J. B. McNett of Grand Haven has been appointed medical director of Navajo ludían Agency, New Mexico, and leaves shortly for tuat post. Judge A. D. Crane of Dexter has nearly recovered from his recent attack, and his f riends hope for no serious consequences. Senator Ferry has gone to Utah, to be absent several weeks. Benator Baard sailed Saturday for liurope. Secretary Sherman left Washington Monday for a three-weck's vacation. He speaks in Portland, Me., tbe23d. Cardinal Manning preaehed the funeral sermón of the Prince Imperial at ChiBelhurst Sunday in the presence oí the imperial family and a numerous congregation. Secretary Sherman, accompanied by a committee of the Maritime lixchange, the mayor, Speaker líátídáll, and ther Congressmen and well-known citizens, went aboard the revenue cutter Hamilton at Philadelphia Monday and started on an inapection of the Deleware river and harbor.
