The Democracy of Pennsylvania met in convention last week for the noniination of a candidato for state treasurer, the highest electivo office for whom Keystone voters will be called upon to cust their ballots this fall. After a sharp struggle between senator "Wallace, antiTilden, and Eandall, Tilden, the latter succeeded in capturing the organization and convention. In the platform adopted is the following plank : Fifth- ThatEutherford B. Hayes.having been placed in power against the well-known and iegally expressed will of the people, is the representative of a conspiracy, only, and his claim of right . to eurround the ballot bozes with troops and deputy marshals to intimídate the electors, and his unprecedented use of the veto to maintain this unconstitutional and despotic power, are an insult and a menace to the country. That is calling things by their right Dames. Mr. Hayes i a "representative of a conspiracy only."1 The people repudiated him. The oonspirators defeated the will of the people. The sub-treasury in New York is being converted into a fortress. K teel bars and shutters are being put np to protect the windows of the basement and first floors. The shutters will be pierced for rifles, so that the garrison may fire upon an attacking mob on any portion of the adjacent streets. The roof of the building will have three turrets of steel, from which the tops of other preparations are being made which will enable a small force to hold the fort against heavy odds until reinforced. The vast accumulation of coin in the vaults, under the vicious gystem which keeps greenbacks in cirkeep a coin reserve of a hundred and fifty million dollars, is supposed to offer temptations for the organization of a thieves' plot, or an attempt on the part of a communist mob, to capture and rob the institution. The necessity for erecting a fortress, in which to keep hundreds of millions of the people's money in idleness, demonstrates the folly of the êystem which requires the people'g money to be taken from their pockets in euch huge sum8 before the government has any legitímate use for it. It is stated on good Democratie authority that Senator Pendleton proposed in oaucus to nullify the appointing power of the President by refusing to confirm his nominations in case he refused to allow the Democrats their own way. In other words, a Senator counsels that one co-ordinate branoh of the government destroy nother! Well, the founder of Democracy did the same. - Ypsilatiti Commercial. Our contemporary must have forgotten the tenure-of-office bill passed by the Eepublican senate to prevent President Johnson from removing Republican officials. That body not only refused to confirm Johnson's nominees but passod a bill to prevent removal of office holders The Senate set themselves up against the President, defied and obstructed him in every way possible, ending with attempt at impeachment. " What is sauce for the goose, &c," ought to bo familiar to the Commercial. "We regret to learn that Washington isn't "healthy" enough for Mr. Hayea He is going to Fremont, Ohio, to spend September, to escape the malaria. Saya a Herald special: " On account of the extremely bad condition of the lowlands or flats, and the eastern shore of the Potomac river, lying directly south of the Executive Mansion, President Hayes has arranged to absent hiinself from the city during the month of September, in order to escape the malarial tmosphere which will uecessarily arise from the quarter mentioned and be carriedby the aoutherly winds across the park to the Mansion as soou as the vegetation begins decaying." The Chandler boom in this state will come to a suelden halt if some of the editora of Republican newspapers don't get a post office or something pretty soon thróugh our notorioiisly profane and liquor-stoeped senator who carries the party in Michigan in his pockets. WThat deep satire there was in the answer of senator Conkling when solicited to make a few speeches in Ohio. "Is Charles Foster a Republican" inquired the senator - and that ended the interfiew. The Philadelphia Time says "the worst thing about Hayes' adininistration ré its hypocrisy." The best thing about hi administration is that it is nearinc the end. imagine how happy Blainemustbe in welcoming John Sherman to his political bulwark.
