There are 424 prisoners in the Detroit House of Correotion at present. He wa 93 years of age and had been a resident of Deoroit since 18S4. In March, 1863, he was appointed by President Lincoln paymaster in the army, with the rank of major. He served in that capacity throuphout the remainder of the war, and in March , 1865, was promoted by President Johnson te the rank of lieutenantcolonel "for gallant and meritorious service during the war." Mr. Yanderbilt declines to accept the proposition made by the Wabash, Grand Trunk and Qreat Western Companies jointly, for the use of one ot lus roads between Detroit nnd Toledo. Friday morning, Charles Laberge, aged 69. was pushed over by a barber named Himilton and striking his head on the curb-stone, received fatal injuries. Cyrus W. Field said to a reporter on Friday that the qnestion of building a special Wabash connection between Detroit and Toledo is now practically ettled. The negotiations with Mr. Vanderbilt for the lease of one of the roads controlled by him between the two cities have chased, and there is no probability of their renewal. Mr. Field says that if Detroit performi ite duty, the road will be ready in time for fall bunines. Senator Chandler started for Maine on Monday. The body of an uuknown man was fonnd in the river at the foot of Cass street Baturday afternoon. Monday morning a youth named John RichIy, who, with a companion, was fishing for minnows with a hand net on the doek below the ruins of Bourke's distellery, Windsor, feil into the river and was drowned. He was about 18 years old and reBided with hia unele on Eighteenth street. Col. John Winder carne to Detroit in 1824 and became clerk of the dü tiiet court of the territory of Michigan in 1826. He remaioed clerk of that court and the Uuited States district court which succeeded it for nearly 50 jeara. The estáte of the late Col. Wm. Phelp ia estimated to b worth about 100,000, about half of which is personal property. Mrs. Phelpa has been appointed by the probate court guardián of the minor son. Controller Bridge on Tuesday, opened proposals for the f200,000 ot city bonds ordered for the purchase of Belle Isle. The bids were asfollowa: Detroit savings bank, 95'',00O at par; Wnú B. Moran, $50,000; A. C. Campau, f50,000, and Emily Campau 50,000 each at 1 mili premium. This provides for the whole $200,000. The premium amounts to $150, which will pay the coat of printing the bonda, advertiaing and all other expenses connected with issuing them. It ia stated that no other city has ever been able to sell four per cent. bonds at a premium, and the sale is regarded as very flattering to Detroit credit.
