Carbonized corn has laíely been found in some mounds near Madisonville, O., how many centuries oíd no one can possibly say. A belt of f orest trees seven or eisht rods in widtli bas been known to coinpletely stop ihe devastating march of the chinch-bug :n travelling from one wheat field to anocher ; the cool, damp soil of such places forming an impassable barrier to their progress. Nine car loads of fancy sheep have been shipped, or are ready tor shipment, over the F. & P. M. E, R. this week. Some went East. some West, and some Isorth, and are to be used for breeding purposes. Good for Genesee county stock.- Flint Citizen. The blackberry erop in the Vineland (ST. J.) section was an enormous one. Fullv 1,000,000 quarts have been marketed on the Vineland tracts. 500,000 quarts being shipped from a single one ol the six railroad stations in Vineland. OnJulyll over 37,000 quarts were shipped from one station alone. The Jiebraska' Farmer says the past summer has been unusually bad there for cattle on account of the bloodthirsty flies that swarmed about each animal. Instead of gaining in flesh each day on the abundant wild grasses, the clayln ■fig[fgiluo by cattle during wtihavehad good grazin 'iftèsttofi have seen the advantage theieof.11 The report of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture statea that the area in winter wheat aggregates one million two hundred and ninty thousand acres, an increase of two hundred ..nd twenty thousand over 1878, and an 'ncrease over 100 percent, in the last three years. The total area of all farm crops is seven million seven hundred ind üf ty thousand acres. AVhite says: Some 'eais ago I reported about some peach ;rees afflicted with this disease, as I upposed it to be, stating in substance ;hat I found the under side of the eaves covered with aphides, or small msecis, wiiicn appeareü to be the cause of curl and deetruction of the leaves. Since that time I have often exaiuined peach leaves similarly affected, and have almost invariably found either aphides suckingthe juices, or gall insects, which, from appearauces, were the cause. Calves are being bought up in the da;ry districts of New York State, prncipally in Chautauqua county. for shipment to the West. Fom lots'have thus far been sent, the List ( ontaiuing 49 head, averaging 300 pounds each and sold at $4 per 100 pounds. Tliey werebought to be shipped to Kuoxville, Ia. They were raised on whey, having been calved in late winter and early spring; a well bred and well graded lot. It is a curious phase of the cattle trade, bringing calves from tho East to be raised and fattened and again perhaps sent back there, 1,000 mili to h to.- PrairU Warmer.
