I he Whig.s are evidently looking up " pretty considerably." They claim as Whig States eleven Northern ones, viz : Maine.Verrnont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Conneclicut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvnnia, Ohio, Indiana. These have 147 Electors of President. At the South they lny claim lo Delavrare, Maryland, North Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabamn, Florida - seven States, having 56 Electors of President. Add these all together, and the Wbigswould have 203 Electors - enough to elect a President, and some 60 votes to spare. Verily, on paper, they seem strong enough to elect any Slaveholder to the Presidency ihey may choose. Some of these States, ho vever, are very nicely balanced, and a very little mismanagement will throw them over totheenemy again. Besides, in some of these, only half or two-thirds of the voters appeared at the polls nt the last elections. Consequently, the Whigs hold them by a very insecure tenure - being mere tenants at will, as the lawyers sny. Still, the fact remains, that they have gained at both ends of the Union.
