Age 80, died Tuesday, May 31, 1983; at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Barnett was born September 26, 1902, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Isaac James and Maude Sellers Barnett. He came to Ann Arbor in 1929 and married Geneva Elizabeth McKinley; she preceded him in death in 1964. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Neighborhood Senior Services. He had been employed by the Earl Cress family. Mr. Barnett was a long time employee of the Elks' Chapter 325 and of the University of Michigan, from which he retired in 1976. He married his present wife, Hazel L. Spratt, in 1965 and she survives. Other survivors include: a stepson, Lincoln C. Murphy Jr. and his wife, Lois E. Murphy; three grandchildren, Gwendolyn Y. Taylor of Oak Park, Michigan, Rosalind E. Murphy, and Lincoln Earl Murphy of Ann Arbor; four great-grandchildren; two aunts, Vivian Joslin and Elizabeth Cranmo, both of Wichita, Kansas; several cousins and a host of very dear friends. The family hour will be held Thursday evening in Muehlig Chapel, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at the Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Emmett L. Green officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Memorial tributes may be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund of the Neighborhood Senior Services Memorial Fund.
