Stores Honor Hackly Butler
All Will Close From 2 To 3 P.M. Tomorrow During His Funeral
All Ann Arbor stores will be closed from 2 to 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon during the funeral services for W. Hackly Butler, secretary of the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce, a park commissioner, and civic leader.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow at the Dolph funeral home where friends may call. Rev. Frederick Cowin of the Church of Christ, Disciples, will officiate. Burial will be made privately later.
Chamber of Commerce and retail merchants’ officials met yesterday and decided upon the closing in a city-wide tribute to the community contributions of the late Mr. Butler. The city hall flag is being flown at half-staff until after the services.
“The ceasing of all business activity during the hour of the services is an unusual tribute to a man whose contributions to the community covered several decades,” Guernsey P. Collins, president of the retail merchants, declared today. “We feel it is fitting to give public recognition of our debt to him by this city-wide hour of mourning.”
