This is my first year playing, and I've waited for today's badges to drop. Very fun!

No download of the day badge yet? I've been waiting for awhile to see it - I guess I'll have to just keep waiting.

No download of the day badge yet? I've been waiting for awhile to see it - I guess I'll have to just keep waiting.

@amyn
The summer game is almost over-there still isn't any download of the day badges yet!

Game on! The kids and I are eagerly awaiting park and/or downtown badges. Time to get us outside!

I agree--I particularly love the park badges. They have led to many discoveries of A2 parks that I'd driven by but never thought to explore. We have a great Parks dept. in this city...AND a great library system.

No matter what I've done, I can't find the 3rd code for the game is a foot badge. I've finished all the other ones, but I've tried and tried (and tried) to get the 3rd code, but I just can't find it.

i've already almost gotten all of the "getting started" badges, all i need is the comment concuror badge! so i need to write a comment...

WOW!

Need help with last code for the cartoon badge. How is the date supposed to be entered and what exactly is meant by "original air date" since there's several different dates of when it was first viewed.

Hey AprilCDB! You're right, there ARE a couple of possible air dates, so here's a hint: the correct one is in the 2nd month of the year. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll clear it up in the badge!

Ok, I got that. But now HOW is the date supposed to be entered? Spelled out? Numbers only? You get different results depending on HOW you enter the date and I just can't seem to find the correct one.

Awesome

Confused by the LARP!
Found the name of the group, but that doesn't work.
Found the city, but there are tons of results.
:-/

to all the summer gamers out there I am working on the Live Long and LARP badge right now and I am having trouble finding the fourth gamecode. I think I know which movie they are talking about but when I go to click on it there is a game code from a few years back so I am wondreing if this is the correct movie or should I look for another one. I am hoping some of you gamers out there could help me out by giving me some more clues so I can find the fourth gamecode.
Thanks for the help
Lmd3577

These badges are so well done -- the searches are fun and I'm learning things too. Thanks so much!!

To all the summer gamers out there I am working on two badges right now and I am having trouble finding the code words for both,
1) I am working on the LARP one and I am having a great deal of trouble finding the fourth clue word for this one. I did look up the the movie I think they are looking for but it has a gamecode from a couple years back so I think I am look at the wrong movie so I am hoping that you can help me out with another clue for that one.

2.) and I am working on the Dial D for Dexter one and I need help figuring out the very last clue for this badge. I have done so much googling on this one to no avail so I am hoping someone could help me out with this one also.

Thanks so much fot the hlep
Lmd3577

@Lmd3577
1. Search the name of the movie, but don't search for only movies.
2. I found this answer on Wikipedia under the list of episodes. It says specifically that it was never aired. The keyword from the clue (starts with R) is in the title of the episode.

In the earn points section it says earn 100 points for signing up, is that from when you first signed up (for me 3 years ago) or is there 100 points for signing up this year that I'm missing? I don't see a code on the reading list game piece that I picked up at the library.

I'm having a great time looking through the available downloads, including Tom Swift novels (!!).

I was in two different branches on Thursday, 1 day too early to see any codes (alas). Guess I'll have to go back, even though Downtown (my 'home' branch) has reopened,

Every Summer when I start playing the Summer Game, I notice other games posted on the leader-board that I have never seen before. This year, it's: WorldHistoryQuest. I looked often for an off-season game, but never found one and assumed you had decided not to make one. Where and how are these other games published? My all time favorite game was the Streets Quest which I missed when it was happening, but tried to do after it was over- although some of the clues were gone by then. Please publish word of these off season games under summer game or events listings. I only learn about them after the fact. You could even email the Summer Gamer's to let them know.

Thanks!

Missing the Fun

@ sara - you didn't miss any fun, nor did any other players. The WorldHistoryQuest is a special set of badges that were just made before the game for a project that some students are working on. We working directly with their teacher to develop the badges to support their curriculum. Andrew can provide more information, but this was not an 'off season' game. Lowdown of the Day which goes hand in hand with Download of the Day was the only off-season game we debuted this year. As long as we continue to add to our download collection - which we are actively doing - there is now end in site for Lowdown of the Day.

Thanks for playing and we promise we don't HIDE fun!! :>
Erin

The World History Quest is meant to help students of the 9th grade World History classes in the AAPS high schools--though it can certainly be enjoyed without being in that class. But if you know of any students about to enroll in their 9th grade year, or who will be taking that class (regardless of what year they're in), please let them know to try it out. They'll find they've read about--and hopefully begun to actually learn--a fair amount of the content for that class by having played the game. It's in the first few weeks of use at this point, so there may be bugs to work out--please send word of anything that seems not quite right.

I teach in one of the local high schools and talked with the Summer Games folks when the idea of having a Summer Game-like means of learning was being explored. But the work of actually putting it all together was done by the Summer Game folks--big time thanks to them for having developed it!

ON EDIT: oops! just saw that there's already an answer to the inquiry about this--missed that my first time looking through the thread. Still, what's above holds true, even it's a bit redundant.

hi sara,

at the moment world history quest is still in its developmental stages and is intended for the specific students for whom we made it. you'll certainly get a chance to play it in future years, either as a completed game or as part of a future summer game. rest assured that any game intended for the whole play.aadl.org audience will always be announced on the website when it is ready to go!

-andrew

Now I'm really sad.... I finished all the badges and I don't have anything to do now. Eagerly awaiting the next badge drop!

Yay!

Will there be a scavenger hunt or some other Summer Game activity at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival this year? We love to go to the Kids Rock concerts and always look forward to seeing what else AADL has in store for us!

please hurry with the next badge drop, i need to get more badges. PLEASE HURRY!!!!!!!!

We don't need no stinkin' badges, but we LOVE the badges! We've been looking forward to the AADL summer game for weeks! Thank you, AADL!

@Lmd3577 Still stuck on the Dial D for Dexter badge? For the last code, try searching key words like "rude" or "removed" along with the TV show name.

This is my first time playing. It's fun earning new badges and learning as I go.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!

I can't wait for the park explorer badges! Being cooped up inside on the computer isn't my thing, but I do admit, hunting for codes is pretty fun.

I would say, 'Badges?! Badges! We don't need no stinkin' badges!"--but that's just not so. We need them and love them and thanks for this year's Summer Game--whoo-hoo and here we go!

did any of you gamer's out there know that the Download Of The Day game is still going on? I went back to the lowdown page and I noticed that there four new clues posted. I have yet to get any points for three of the downloads and they are posted from the 11th-14th if any of you have got points for these downloads let me know. I have figured out all of them except the graphic novelist they are talking about so I need help with a clue for that one.
Thanks so much for the help

Does anyone know if/where I can download a Classic Summer Reading Log online to print out (for the Paper Summer Reading Game / badge)? Or can I only get it at an AADL branch?

Hey shannonnauts!

We're working on getting the paper Summer Games for this year updated on the site, so you'll definitely be able to print them out from home! We should have them up and running on the GET STARTED page by the end of the day! Thanks for asking!

"NERDY, MYSTERIOUS, BEAR-COVERED BRILLIANCE" is how I plan to describe everything from now on.

Through the past summer games, I have learned so much about the different unique and helpful features that the library offers. Just to name a few, I knew nothing of the massive amount of historical documents that the library has on their website, nor the ability to download many different music tracks.

And... I just finished the last badge! I've earned all the badges from this drop (except for the "Super Summer Reader" one - I haven't gotten the paper form yet). Just waiting for the next badge drop...!!

So excited the summer games are here! I've been looking forward to this since September.

I was just at the Mallets Creek Branch, and enjoyed looking for codes! Just wondering; how many codes have been posted at the various branches so far?

Hey yaldah!

There are TEN building codes posted at each branch and those will be all of the building codes for this summer! That doesn't mean they'll be the only codes you can FIND in the building, since there will be lots of other displays and games that feature codes. But those will be the only codes you need for the upcoming Branch Master badges! And this week we plan to replace the plain code sheets with a more obvious design to make it pretty clear which codes are the building codes so you'll know when you've found them all. Hope this helps!

One more quick question: I picked up my teen Summer Reading Game Card today. I noticed that it doesn't mention receiving a free book as it's been in the past years; the card only mentions a $1 coupon off a book from the Friends Book Shop or a 5$ Fine Forgiveness coupon. Has it been changed this year?
Thanks! :)

Some of the codes are easy to find others are harder to find. But that didn't stop my fiance and me from getting them all ;p!!!!

Woo hoo! My 2nd favorite part of summer each year (my 1st favorite being my water garden), both as an AADL staff member and as a player in general. :) I love collecting codes, searching for badges, adding things to lists and all those fun parts of the summer game. But I also love watching all the people coming into the libraries to look for codes, to turn in their paper games and get their prizes. Especially the little kids who are so excited about picking out stickers and their book and everything. Such a fun time! :) Thanks to my colleagues for all the hard work they put into this game to make it so much fun!

This is our first time playing the game! My six year old son and I are having a great time reading together and seeking out codes! Thank you AADL! This is a great activity for families that love to read!

Hurray for the return of the summer game!

I have a few questions, has anyone had a problem using text? When I text NEWPLAYER to 4AADL, I get a message failure.

Also, I checked out several books today, and have an active checkout history list but I haven't earned my checkout history badge. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in advance!

I love playing the summer game!!! I'm exited to see all of the new badges that come out...

This is pretty cool and I wish I had played in the previous years too. Gamification is a great way to motivate people to read more. Too bad it's only for the Summer.

Woohoo, my checkout history badge is finally showing up!

Texting to 4AADL is still not working.

I am super, super, super excited that the picnic blankets are back. *happy dance*

@cherylo -- great tip, thanks! That fixed my issue and now I am now text ready! This will save me a lot of time. I've been taking pictures of codes and typing them in later.

I think doing the summer games because its something fun to do everyday and the lego on the badges are so cool!
-Miles (four year old)

I like the summer games because you get a lot of the points at the end of summer and something to do all summer long! The badges make every day fun!
-Eli (a six year old)

I'm stuck on the last code for The Game is Afoot! badge. Can anyone help? Thanks!

@Gabriela Valderrama For the last code of The Game is Afoot Badge, try typing the key words in the clue. (HINT: Find the key words in, "an author whose last name pops up in the title of a famous ode to an urn by Keats").

Having trouble finding the third code for Game is Afoot. Are we looking for the author or the character?

This is my first time playing, and I can't wait to get started! It looks like a lot of fun! :D

Hi Library People,

Would it be possible for you to include the entire item description on our SG Player Page when we select "I finished this?" For example, I read: Vogue knitting international [magazine].v.33 no.1 Spr/Sum 2015 , but it just says "Vogue Knitting" on my page. I want to keep track of which issues I've read.

Thanks!

hi sara! we can certainly look into putting in more information. in the meantime, don't forget that even when you use the "I Finished This" button you can change the "titled" field to whatever you want. i know that's where i add podcast episode information to keep track of which ones i've put in!

-andrew

Had forgotten Summer Game was starting until I walked past one of the on site codes in Traverwood the other day. Very excited!

(And yes, I'm partially dropping this comment to get the "Comment Conqueror" badge, absolutely shameless I know...)

@garotagretta, did you get your West branch code to work? If not, you might be making the same mistake I did, look closer at the code. It's not Botbuddies as you've written in your post.

i love these badges! It is so fun to hunt for them. I will say a couple are really hard, but if they weren't so hard it may not be as fun. Cant wait for another badge drop!

Finally finished getting all the catalog badges last night. That mystery one was tough! Can't wait for the next drop!

<p>@sharmas: I haven't seen any code in the mail this year. Last summer there was one - do you know if there will be a code sent out by mail this summer? If so, it will probably come to both of us soon. :)</p>

There was a code in the mail, on a postcard featuring the Lego theme. Maybe you or someone in your house got it and you didn't realize?

The badge drops happen on Fridays around 6:00 PM! The postcards went out before the game started - some people got them on June 10 - it can take a couple weeks before everyone receives them. It's got LEGO all over it and colored stripes. It's very colorful and looks similar to the classic/paper game cards.
- erin

Are these new badge drops and accident? I just read that they don't happen until 6:00 pm and one of the badges seems to be racking up earners, but it's got a wicked glitch in it that wom't let me move past the second clue. I entered the third code, but the badge detail won't give it to me. ANyone else having this issue? (Etymology)

As long as the online summer game has been around, there have been a few eager souls (including me) who watch the badge page and use it a a guide for what is available to work on. Sometimes this means that badges get noticed as up and available before the weekly 'badge drop' announcement that they are part of.

In the cases when I created a player pick badge, I was given heads up notice when it went live and the opportunity therefore to do it 'early'.

This is good, in my opinion. Early searchers/completers encounter and are able to report any issues, helping to improve the experience for other patrons. Human activity always has an error rate, and I for one enjoy it when I can help fix or improve a later user's experience before they even have a chance to encounter a problem.

@fisherwoman, if you're still stuck, go check the discussion for this week's badge drop. I had the same problem - you found the bonus code instead of the third code. Hints in that discussion will help you move on (best clue: add 'road' to the guy's last name in your search)

Yes, I'm here looking back at the First Badge Drop, too. I thought that the categories were really interesting, and I enjoyed doing each badge, really, they were all super.
