"Sheriff's Deputies Thomas Kelly (left) and Robert Marcum (right) are astride the department's two new motorcycles which go on duty this weekend, on patrol of parks throughout Washtenaw County. Local residents have complained that motorcycle gangs and young hoodlums have harassed picnickers in area parks. Deputies have been unable to apprehend the offenders because scout cars cannot drive down narrow trails or over rough terrain. Deputy Marcum and Deputy Joseph Swope will be permanently assigned to the cycles, believed to be the first two wheeled vehicles used by any area police agency in a generation. Ann Arbor police do use three-wheel vehicles."
