Miss Mummery, Martin Burke Exchange Vows
Satin applique in a tulip design accented the gown Jo Ann Mummery wore for her marriage Saturday morning in St. Thomas Catholic Church to Martin J. Burke, son of Mrs. George J. Burke of Fenwood Dr. and the late Mr. Burke.
Msgr. G. Warren Peek officiated at the nuptial mass. Two cousins of the bride, David Mummery of Whitmore Lake and James White of Independence Blvd., served as alter boys.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Mummery of Elizabeth St., wore a gown of white slipper satin and net. Applique appeared on the net-over-satin skirt and at the neckline of the fitted, satin bodice. Sheer net cuffs trimmed the long sleeves.
Wears Fingertip Veil
A band of satin tulips secured her fingertip veil, and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and stephanotis centered by glamellias.
Mary Lee Knoll of Morristown, N. J., formerly of Ann Arbor, was the bride’s honor attendant. She was gowned in light blue net over taffeta and carried light yellow larkspur and pale blue dairy-pompons. Yellow daisy-pompons fashioned her headdress.
Mary Elizabeth Mummery, sister of the bride, and Rosemary Madigan of Hamburg Rd. were the bridesmaids. With their gowns of pastel yellow net over taffeta, they carried light blue delphinium and yellow daisy-pompons. In their hair they work blue daisy-pompons.
Attends Brother
George J. Burke, jr., of Lansing was best man for his brother. Guests were seated by William J. Vowell of N. Main St. and Richard A. DeLong of S. Forest Ave.
H. William Burke, brother of the bridegroom, was the organist. Margaret Fisher of E. Kingsley St. was the vocalist.
A breakfast was held in the Michigan League, after which the bride’s parents entertained at a reception at their home. Assisting at the reception were Mrs. A. J. Mummery of Whitmore Lake, Mrs. Bernard E. Wright of E. Kingsley St., Mrs. Robert Mercer of Packard St., Mrs. Coleman Mummery of Olivia Ave. and Mrs. Lon J. White of Independence Blvd.
Assist At Reception
Also assisting were Mrs. Durward N. Aye of Temperance, Mich., Marilyn Cyr of Dixboro, Mary Lou Farmer of Frieze Ave., Mrs. Horace Reid of Grand Rapids and Mrs. William P. Young of Fountain St.
The couple left for a wedding trip in northern Michigan, the bride wearing an aqua shantung dress with brown accessories and a corsage of glamellias taken from her bridal bouquet.
A graduate of St. Thomas High School, the bride was employed with Eberbach & Son Co. before her marriage. Mr. Burke was graduated from Ann Arbor High School and is attending Michigan State Normal College.
The newlyweds will make their home in Ann Arbor.
