For the Signal of Liberty

i Mr. Editor, - Every Liberty voter &hould continuo i to vote as hcrctofore for nouc but Liberty men. This course is ubsolutely necesi sary, in order to make our votes accom plish the greatest results. I do not say tliat Liberty men should refuse to vote for the candidate of another party provided such candidate be au antislavery man, and will, if elected, do all within lus power under the Constitution of the United States to nbolish Slavery every where : but the Liberty party should ?io, on any consideraron whatevér, unitc itself to the Whig or Democratie party, fjr in that case it would bo swallowed up and its exi-stence and influenco would cease forever. It should continue independent of the olhcr partios, and mako no engagements or alliances with either, but say to them both, the party that will nomínate a man or men holding our views and who in our judgment wíH act accordingly in good Hiith, without dodging, shall recciva the votes oí Liberty men, but you must notexpect Liberty votes for any candidate of different views as pnyrnent for nominating a Liberty man : we vote for your candidate for the purpose ofadvancing our own objeets, and not for tho purpose of strengthoning your party. - We vote for any man of any party who we believe will sustain views faithfully and with nbility and judment, vided he has n good moral characler ; but vc will pay no price to his party for his nomination beyond that oí giving our votes ín his favor. íiis the ciuty of the Liberty party to say to both of the othcr par;icá ; if vou will have ti slaveholdar ora pmsluvery man fur the next President or Vice President, you must elect him wiihoul the aid oí Liberty votes : you can nol have our votes for a Southern slaveholdcror a Norlhern doughface; but the party that will nominato tlie right men," may depend on electing them with the help of our vote:?. In o.[)iessng the above opinión I speak for myself only ; sucli a courso appeaxs (o me to be the right ono. The electoral volé oí tho Free States CBb cleci tíre next President in opposilion to the entire vote of the South, and can also spare twenty-lbur electoral votes to go with tho South. Either naity that will noniinale a candidale for President and Vice President who will get the votes oí theii own p.irty and the votes of thu Liberly men will be sure to elect them. Nuw let Liberty men say to both porties, nomínate thc right men, and we will help you elec-t ijberií ; but if you choose to havá Maveholder.s or dough faces, our vote will not aid you in tlieir elcction.
