Sunday Rally To Support VA Nurses
YPSILANTI - A rally in support of two Philippine nurses who were convicted last month of poisoning patients at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor is to be held here Sunday.
The public gathering; being organized by Patricia Thomas, a nurse’s aide at the hospital, is aimed at mounting support for Leonora Perez and Filipina Narciso.
The two registered nurses are scheduled to be sentenced later this month by U.S. District Court Judge Philip Pratt. The 33-year-old Perez and Narciso, 31, could draw life prison terms if the maximum sentence for the poisoning offenses is given.
Thomas said the rally is to start at 1 p.m. Sunday outside the old City Hall here at 304 N. Huron Street. Other rallies held in behalf of the nurses in Ann Arbor and Detroit have attracted crowds of up to 1,000 spectators and participants.
“We’re determined that the tragedy of this conviction won’t be forgotten,” Thomas said. “We’re getting a lot of support from many people.”
