MILTON STEFFEY SUCCUMBS AT 79

Long Illness Fatal To Retired Edison Man

Milton M. Steffey, an Ann Arbor resident for 55 years and associated with the Detroit Edison Co. for 31 years before his retirement on Jan 6., 1936, died at his home, 520 N. Ashley St., early this morning following a lingering illness. He was 79 years old.

Mr. Steffey, a native of South Bend, Ind., was born Feb. 3, 1864. He was the son of Rev. and Mrs. Michael Steffey.

Coming to Ann Arbor as a youth, Mr. Steffey went into the newspaper and magazine business, having his stand in the old Beal building on N. Main St. He joined the Edison company employ on Dec. 5, 1904, and served most of his 31 years as an appliance salesman.

On Sept. 17, 1890, Mr. Steffey was married to Julia Ann O’Grady in the rectory of St. Thomas Catholic church. Mrs. Steffey died Jan. 5, 1937.

Survivors include a daughter, Miss Helen Irene Steffey, at home; four sons, John Milton and Stewart S. Steffey, both of Jackson; Harry Michael Steffey, in Officers Candidate School at Fargo, N.D., and George M. Steffey, Chicago, Ill., and four grandchildren.

The Rosary will be recited for Mr. Steffey at 8 o’clock Thursday night. Services will be held at St. Thomas Church at 9 o’clock Friday morning and burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. High Mass will be sung at 7:15 next week Wednesday morning.
