MANDICH PICKED M GRID CAPTAIN

Jim Mandich, who has earned a reputation as one of the finest pass receivers in Wolverine football history, has made another outstanding “reception.”

Mandich, who won All-Big Ten honors last year and is rated a likely All-America prospect this season, yesterday was elected captain of the ’69 Michigan squad by his teammates.

Head Coach Bo Schembechler, in announcing the selection, described Mandich as “a great football player and a great team leader.”

Mandich, a 6-3, 217 pound senior from Solon, Ohio, has caught 69 passes for 832 yards in his two years at end to rank third on the all-time Michigan pass receivers list.

The Wolverine record is 132 receptions, established by All-America Jack Clancy in 1966.
