Was Widow Of Former School Commissioner
Mrs. Victoria Essery, widow of former County School Commissioner Evan Essery, died this morning at her home, 822 Arch St., after a six weeks' illness. She was 84 years old.
Mr. Essery, who died in 1924, was county school commissioner continuously from 1907 until his death. Previously he was superintendent of schools at Manchester from 1892 to 1907.
Mrs. Essery was born Nov. 20, 1857, in Jeddo, Mich., a daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Farewell, pioneer settlers in the Thumb district. She married Mr. Essery Dec. 25, 1884, at Jeddo. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Carl V. and William E., both of Birmingham, Mich.; a daughter, Prof. Florence V. Essery of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville; and a sister, Mrs. Cynthia West, Bad Axe.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at the Dolph funeral home, with Dr. Charles W. Brashares officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at Dolph's.
