Wollam Opens Drive-In With Robin Hood Theme
REMODELS, OPENS DRIVE-IN: Robert J. Wollam, owner of the local Circus Drive-In, recently opened his Friar Tuck's Pantry at 3201 Washtenaw Rd. after spending about $12,000 remodeling the building (above) and paving a 30-car lot.
Robert J. Wollam, owner of the Circus Drive-In of 3300 Packard Rd., recently gained the leasehold rights of the former Vic's Drive-In of 3201 Washtenaw Rd. and has remodeled the latter structure, improved its grounds and renamed the firm.
Now called Friar Tuck's Pantry, the eating establishment, which has curb service, has a Robin Hood Ear decor. Sherwood Forest colors - yellows, browns and greens, dominate the interior where authentic reproductions of coats of arms on shields are shown.
Wollam said he spent about $12,000 remodeling the restaurant, adding new lighting, installing a new stainless steel kitchen and paving a 30-car lot which is lighted by nine gas lights. The building's exterior was changed with the addition of a roof overhang and other work.
Persons are served in cars by hostesses in Robin Hood-type uniforms.
Wollam is manager of both Friar Tuck's, which employs 13 persons, and the Circus Drive-In, which was opened last December. He owns the Circus. Wollam plans to hold a grand opening later at Friar Tuck's which he opened about three weeks ago.
The Friar Tuck property is owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Telfer and was formerly Vic's Drive-In by Mrs. Victor Rice, all of Ann Arbor.
