Ann Arbor Library Loans Recordings Of Masters' Music

Ann Arborites can now borrow a Bach symphony or a Gershwin musical on records from the Ann Arbor Public Library.

The library has opened a collection of about 100 classic and semi-classic records to be loaned, one to a borrower for one week periods. The record collection is in the fiction room on the main floor.

All the records are the long-playing type (33 1/2 revolutions per minute).

Composers represented include Bach, Mozart, Handel, Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, Gershwin and Bartok. Forms include symphonies, concertos, sonatas, operas, chamber music and some drama and musical comedy.

The service has been established in response to public interest expressed over the past several years, Homer R. Chance, head librarian, said. Additions will be made to the collection. Space limitations, however, will not permit inclusion of standard 78 r.p.m. records, he noted.
