COUNCIL PRAISES M TEAM, COACH

Michigan Football Coach Bo Schembechler, recuperating from a mild heart attack in a Pasadena hospital, will soon be receiving congratulations for his team’s performance this past season.

The City Council last night passed a resolution commending Schembechler and his Wolverines “for a glorious season” despite the 10-3 loss to Southern California in the Rose Bowl.

Passed unanimously, the resolution reads, “The City Council of the City of Ann Arbor, at its first regular meeting of 1970, hereby expresses the appreciation of the people of Ann Arbor to the 1969 University of Michigan football team, its captain Jim Mandich, its coaches, and particularly its head coach Bo Schembechler for an outstanding season and a gallant performance in the Rose Bowl.

“The season, which saw the Wolverines defeat Ohio State before more than 103,000 people to share leadership of the Big Ten, was a source of pride and pleasure to Ann Arborites.

“We know the disappointment of losing by one touchdown at Pasadena hours after learning of Bo’s illness. But if the team had not been upset at the sudden news of serious illness on the part of the coach who had worked so well with them all year, they would be a heartless crew and we would love them less for it.

“For a glorious season, Ann Arbor gives its thanks and congratulations,” the resolution concluded.
