AT WHEEL: Mrs. Alice Mulchahey's pot is almost ready to come off the potter's wheel. After the clay is kneaded to remove air bubbles, it is "thrown" on the wheel in a ball, and after making a central cylinder, the shape of the piece is formed by hand while the potter's foot keeps the wheel going around in a treadle action. After the piece is dried for a while it is placed upside down on the wheel and the foot (base) is formed. The piece is then ready to be bisque-fired in the kiln. Mrs. Mulchahey is secretary of the Potters' Guild.
