NONAGENARIAN: Mrs. Katherine Nagel (above), a resident of Washtenaw county for more than 60 years, celebrated her ninetieth birthday anniversary today at her home at 436 Fifth St. A family celebration will be held tonight.

Reading, sewing and housework make up the daily activity of Mrs. Katherine Nagel, who is observing her ninetieth birthday anniversary today at her home at 436 Fifth St. Relatives and friends will gather tonight for a special tribute.
One of the oldest residents of the west side, Mrs. Nagel, a native of Wuerttemberg, Germany, has lived in Washtenaw county for more than 60 years and has lived in her Fifth St. home for 50 years.
Alert and active, she does her own housework in her apartment and prepares most of her meals. She devotes considerable of her time to reading, varying this with sewing. Her eyesight is excellent.
Mrs. Nagel, formerly was Katherine Knapp, and came to this country in 1871. She was married Feb. 22, 1874, in Jackson to Martin Nagel, who died in 1900. After their marriage, they lived for a few years in Scio township before coming to Ann Arbor.
Of her five children, Mrs. August Schaefer, of Fifth St. is the only one living. She has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Among the out-of-town relatives here for the celebration are Mrs. Schaefer's son, Karl and family from Washington, D. C., and her daughter, Mrs. George F. Wilson and family from Toledo.
