Former Councilwoman Margaret D. Towsley has deeded a lot at the corner of Vinewood and Wayne to the city for use as a city park, asking that the park be named "Postman's Stop."
The City Council last night accepted the deed. The council also passed resolutions expressing the city's gratitude for the gift and naming the park as requested by Mrs. Towsley.
In a letter to the council, Mrs. Towsley said, "This lot was for many years the location of the residence of Anne. B. Mueller. During many of these years, it was the habit of the postman delivering mail in the area to stop in to check on the condition of Mrs. Mueller who lived alone.
It is requested that the park to be established be called 'Postman's Stop' and dedicated to the unselfish mail carriers throughout the years who have devoted so much time in the service of others. It would have made Mrs. Mueller very happy to have been able to make this dedication herself."
Second Ward Councilman Douglas D. Crary said that "this name, as far as I'm concerned, is reminiscent of the service above and beyond the call of duty of the late Norm Kern who took care of everybody."
Kern was formerly the postman in the area.
