A new, 4,100-square-foot office building is to be built at Longshore Dr. and Kellogg St. for Prakken Publications, nearly doubling the space of the firm's 330 Thompson St. offices.
Lawrence Prakken, president of the publishing house, made the announcement today, explaining that the estimated $65, - to $80,000 installation will be the main general offices of the company.
It publishes School Shop and Education Digest magazines and professional volumes on industrial education, all with national circulation among shop and industrial education teachers and educators.
The one-story office building, whose exterior will be of face brick, panel wall and glass, will contain executive and general offices, library and offices for the advertising and circulation departments.
Prakken Publications employs five editors and 10 others who hold advertising and circulation jobs, and the firm has advertising sales offices in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City.
Unitec Corp. of Ann Arbor, formerly called Schoolmaker, Inc., is the designer and contractor of the new facility. Schoolmaker is now a division of Unitec, Charles J. Leonard, Unitec president, said.
