Underwood, Margaret Hanselman
Ann Arbor, MI
Born November 1, 1902 in Manistee, MI, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Crandell) Hanselman. Passed away April 1, 2004 in Ann Arbor, MI. Margaret was married to Myrl G. Underwood on January 1, 1927, and they lived in their home on Glazier Way since 1935. She was preceded in death by Myrl in 1957, and by her brother George Hanselman in 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Dale of Stockbridge, MI, her grandson, William Dale of Munith, MI, her granddaughter Leigh Dale of Hobart, Tasmania, three great grandchildren Amanda, Casey, and William Dale of Munith MI and her nephew, George F. Hanselman of Melville, NY. Margaret graduated from the University of Michigan in 1925 with a degree in Library Science, working over the years in various University of Michigan libraries as well as at the University of Michigan Natural Science Museum. Her credits as a published author include Bibliography of North American Minor Natural History Serials in the University of Michigan Libraries, 1954, to which she published a supplement in 2002. She was a member of the Manistee Historical Society and the Washtenaw Historical Society. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor MI. She was also a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Margaret lived an extraordinary life as a wife, mother, grandmother, librarian, author, historical preservationist, political activist, and women's right advocate. Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church, 1432 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor.
