Leslie Science Center will become a reality

The Leslie Science Center is scheduled to become a reality later this year on Traver Road, following renovations and improvements to the 15-acre park facility, the Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Department reports.
The site was willed to the city in 1976 by Dr. Eugene Leslie, noted scientist and University of Michigan professor of chemical engineering.
A master plan completed in 1983 recommended that the site become a learning science center with emphasis on providing learning opportunities for youth in the field of applied sciences.
Current planned renovations include conversion of several out-buildings into office space, renovation of the homestead, parking facilities, public restrooms and landscaping.
The Ann Arbor Park Advisory Commission has established a committee to advise the Department of Parks and Recreation on operation and development of the facility. Persons interested in serving on the committee may obtain applications by calling the department at 994-2780 or the Leslie Science Center at 662-7802.
