Gun Expert Edwin Wier Dies At 74
Most people have an ideal of what they want to do with their lives, but there are probably few who get to live out their ideals. Edwin W. Wier, who died Wednesday at the age of 74, was luckier than most.
Almost 57 years ago Edwin Wier took up a hobby. It eventually became his business, and that business lasted his entire life.
Wier was interested in gun repairing and the manufacture of small machine parts of all kinds. When his machinery and equipment began to overflow in his basement in 1946, he opened the Wier Gun Shop at 223 N. Main St. The shop eventually moved to 3245 Washtenaw, and to its final location at 4011 Jackson Ave., where Wier operated it until he retired last month.
Wier is survived by his wife Elsie; two sons, Elwin C. and Raynard G. of Ann Arbor, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. Leo (Marge) Wohlwend of Ann Arbor and Mrs. Edward (Ruth) Strohm of Detroit.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the Muehlig Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea.
