Powrie Will Direct Summer Program For Local YMCA

Appointment of Emerson Powrie, Slauson School social studies instructor, as summer program director for the YMCA, was announced today by Wendell LaCoe, YMCA personnel committee chairman.

Powrie’s duties will include directing the YMCA Summer Fun Club, supervising the organization's swimming program, and assisting in the planning and direction of YMCA Youth Center activities for high school students.

The new director will begin his activities June 16, and will carry the program through to its completion Aug. 15.

A graduate of the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in education, Powrie joined the Slauson School staff in 1945. In addition to his teaching duties, he is coach of the lightweight football team at the school, and has previously served as supervisor of the intra-mural program for boys.

‘Y’ Leader

Emerson Powrie, Slauson School teacher, has been named summer program director for the YMCA, it was announced today.
