BRISK RIDE: Returning from a cross-country jaunt are riders of the Everett Riding School on N. Maple Rd. The daily treks over Ann Arbor's hills and dales are only one phase of riding they learn during many hours on horseback. There's also the art of equitation, jumping and dressage, to name a few, and ardent riders don't mind practicing many hours a day to polish their talents.

NEEDS WORKOUT: Karen Nimke, a student at the University and instructor at the Everett Riding School, works four-year-old "Euchre" on a longe line before mounting him. Karen expects to make horsemanship her profession upon graduation. She has gained fame in the area in jumping, has captained the Everett jump team, the "Everetties," and won the Hawthorne Hills trophy in dressage the last two years.

BEST FRIEND: Connie Hunter's prize companion is her horse, "Bonfire," a thoroughbred hunter. Connie, 14, daughter of the John C. Hunters of Geddes Rd., has been riding since she was three years old and has placed high in competition for hunter classes and hunter seat equitation.

RIDING HIGH: Jane Berkeley riding "Forward," practices jumps during a riding session at the Everett Riding School. Janie also competes in equitation competition at shows around the state. She has received ribbons for jumping, both as a team member and individually.
