UF Drive To Be Led By Gregory

Local Businessman Named For Campaign Coming Next Fall

W. Charles Gregory of 721 Soule Blvd. has been appointed chairman of the Ann Arbor Area United Fund campaign for next fall, UF president Jack D. Hogan announced yesterday at the organization’s annual meeting.

Gregory succeeds Charles A. Hoffman who headed last fall’s successful campaign, to raise $337,916.

Is City Native

Gregory is vice-president of the Jno. C. Fischer Hardware Co. and a member of the firm of Mayer-Schairer Co. A native of Ann Arbor, he was graduated from Ann Arbor High School and Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. He served as a Naval officer for three years during World War II.

Current civic activities include chairmanship of the Salvation Army advisory board, and membership on the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce board and the Retail Merchants Division of the C of C. Gregory is a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Gregory has served as Boy Scout commissioner for the Portage Trails Council, is a past-president of the Kiwanis Club, and a former member of the YMCA and Red Cross boards.

UF Work Noted

Work for the United Fund in the past has included being residential chairman and “big four” division chairman. Gregory also was a campaign committee member during last fall’s campaign.

“I have always been a believer in citizenship responsibility and I will do everything I can to make the campaign as successful as in the past few years,” Gregory said.

Dates for the campaign and the goal have not been decided.
