New Restaurant Opening Sunday

A Dearborn man — Edward W. Blazo — has formed Blazo’s of Ann Arbor, Inc., to operate Blazo’s Country Fair restaurant at 330 S. State St. It will open Sunday for the first time.

Blazo, who operates three other restaurants in Dearborn, said today he has a lease on the S. State building, with an option to buy it.

The lease - purchase agreement is with the Old Colony Pancake House, Inc., of Detroit, owner of the building that until recently housed a pancake specialty restaurant.

Blazo said the new local restaurant, which is expected to employ 35 persons to start, will feature sandwiches, short orders to dinners, plus a house specialty—a double-decked hamburger called “Country Cousin.”

The restaurant is being redecorated and equipment changed extensively to fit it into a country-type decor “built” around a large statue of a freckled-faced country boy holding balloons.

Old Colony in 1961 purchased the 330 S. State building for nearly $100,000 from the Ann Arbor Bank which operated a branch office at the S. State address until a new one was opened nearby at 505 E. Liberty St.
